KEAD’s primary consulting focus is investigation/evaluation and repair, with a secondary focus on design. We tackle design projects on a case-by-case basis that fit the expertise and resource capacity of our firm.

Job Details Overview and Responsibilities

KEAD is seeking a qualified person with a degree in engineering and a minimum of having completed their F.E. Exam and it is recorded with NCEES.org. A working knowledge, including hands-on time, of residential building plumbing systems gained through work, training, or handyman projects is required. We will look at education / past work and team experience for this position in our Seattle office.

This position will focus on providing Mechanical Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) engineering support regarding design and project management support for building piping replacement projects. Duties include providing initial estimates for proposals, working with our proposal team to author client contracts, leading assessments utilizing our in-house forensic materials lab and staff, maintaining client communications as a project manager, and lead design tasks and permitting activities. You will serve as both project manager and engineer and perform design tasks, manage schedules, and reporting of projects and budgets to both the clients and management.

The hired candidate will be responsible for:

  • Work with our proposal team to respond to and quote new project requests
  • Manage proposal/contract execution and receipt of client documents
  • Perform sight visits and direct data collection or sampling as needed
  • Locate existing documentation from client and public sources
  • Utilize and direct team members to perform mapping or layout activities.
  • Assist in bidding documentation and review for clients
  • Assist clients with contractor selection
  • Assist in project contract generation and negotiations
  • Direct contractors and specialists as needed
  • Direct designers and technicians as needed
  • Provide communication with clients through both in-person and digital means.
  • Provide completion inspection on your projects for client
  • Manage schedules for progress, costs, and resources and report to management
  • Directing permitting and code compliance activities
  • Serve as a role model and mentor to junior staff
  • Writing technical reports as necessary
  • Serving as an expert witness when needed
  • Occasional local site visits
  • Infrequent travel as projects require
  • Represent company toward clients and participate in marketing activities.

Minimum Required Experience and Qualifications:

  • US Citizenship or current permanent legal work status required – We do not sponsor
  • No felony convictions, drug convictions, restraining/protective orders, or domestic violence convictions. (Our forensics division works with firearms)
  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, Materials, Agricultural, Construction, or Materials Engineering from an ABET-accredited school.
  • FE Examination Certificate from NCEES and EIT status
  • Basic hands-on mechanical skills
  • Basic familiarity with piping and plumbing systems, with some hands-on experience
  • Basic familiarity with HVAC systems
  • 0-5 years of work with a technical team
  • Basic familiarity with IPC Code
  • Good project management skills
  • Basic business financial understanding
  • Experience authoring test procedures and handling protocols
  • Proficient with MS Office products (Word, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to write well-organized and concise technical reports
  • Analysis level expertise with MS Excel (formulas, plotting, optimizing results, exporting data to reports)
  • CAD experience with AutoCAD, Revit, or SolidWorks
  • Confidence speaking and presenting to clients and groups
  • Ability to clearly communicate in English
  • Ability to explain or translate technical details to non-technical clients

Preferred Experience:

  • WA State P.E. or Other US State P.E. with the ability to gain WA P.E.
  • 1-10 years of MEP engineering experience
  • Construction or plumbing background
  • Code-compliant design review experience
  • Permitting experience
  • Proven estimating and scheduling experience
  • Basic fabrication skills, including sawing, soldering, welding, milling, turning, additive manufacturing, and use of power tools
  • Project & time management skills
  • Working knowledge of MS Project for managing projects and reporting
  • Advanced CAD Software proficiency with SolidWorks or AutoCAD
  • Team leadership experience
  • Ability to grow and maintain relationships and trust with past, existing, and new clients
  • Conflict and scheduling resolution experience

Compensation range $60,000 to $145,000 per year plus benefits DOE
